Savanger Hunt
We just finished a very fun activity. It was a savanger hunt. We used our computers to find locations from clues we got as text messages on our phones. We texted our answers. If we were correct, we took photos of ourselves there. It was a little frustrating but it was a good way to get up and moving and get to know more Cadre members. How do you think you could implement a savanger hunt in your classroom?

This sounds like a fun concept! I know our school policy on cell phones wouldn't allow us to implement this activity as described above but maybe through the use of digital cameras or flip videos students could record tasks to later share as "proof" that they found the clue. You certainly have me brainstorming ideas after sharing your activity!! Thanks :)

ReplyDeleteThis does sound like an engaging activity. We wouldn't be able to implement this activity since cellphones are not allowed. I wonder if the clues could lead to different computers in the school like the library, computer lab or a fellow teacher's classroom. From those clues it could lead the students to the answers. If all of the teachers were involved in some way either all in one grade or whole school, it would be a great collaboration project.

I think that digital cameras could be used effectively to do this. It may be something you could do on a field trip. If you gave groups of students a list of things to look for, they could document them with a photo. It's too bad that district's block the use of a type of technology, that is cell phones, without considering their potential for positive uses.
ReplyDeleteWow - how fun! I'd like more information on this.
ReplyDeleteI did a similar activity this summer as a senior party. Makes me wonder if the use of cell phones will change in the future. We can't use them in school presently, but are there uses for them in school? Something to think about.
