Brain Strengthening Activity
The last activity we did today dealt with making connections between the right and left brain. According to research this activity is best done right before or after a challenging activity. Have 5 or more people stand in a circle. One person starts acting something out (ex. riding a bike), the person on the left says, "What are you doing?" The person acting out riding a bike has to say something different like.."Biting my toenails." Then the person who asked has to do what that person said. The next person on the left says, "What are you doing? The person biting toenails, then says something different like, "Milking a cow.".... Not only is it a 'thinking' activity, but it produced many laughs.

How fun?! I can't wait to try it out with my class.
ReplyDeleteThis was a super fun activity! I think it would be a great team builder as well
ReplyDeleteGreat ice-breaker for the beginning of the year activity!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine what five and six year olds could think up!
ReplyDeleteHow clever! I can some students confused because crossing the sides of the brain is so difficult for them. This reminds me of the basic juggling activity we participated in during the Quantum Learning activity. You were to toss a scarf from your right hand up and across the body to catch with your left hand. Then repeat the process from left to right. Good brain candy and exercise.

FayeAnn, if you try this activity you must record it! :0) I am sure five and six year olds would be a hoot!
ReplyDeleteHow about a picture of the cadre folks doing this? There is a lot of brain research out there that supports activities like this to help get information to pass across the corpus collosum. It can help with children who struggle with reading and math. This activity looks very fun. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great. We are doing a book study on Eric Jensen's brain based learning. Last week we read about the importance of resting the brain after introdcuing new concepts. This activity sounds perfect. I'm going to forward it to our book club host team for our next meeting.
